Sizzling Homemade Chicken Fajitas: A Step-by-Step Recipe

Ingredients
  

For the Marinade:

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 500 grams chicken breast
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 bell pepper sliced
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for extra heat
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tea spoon corn starch
  • 8-10 flour tortillas

For the Toppings:

  • Crème fraîche / or Sour cream
  • Shredded cheese
  • Diced tomato
  • Sliced Avocado
  • Lettuce
  • Lime wedges
  • Tabasco for extra heat

Instructions
 

Cook the Fajita

  • Dice the Chicken breast, Slice the onion and bell peppers, mince the garlics.

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until they are translucent, about 5 minutes.

  • Add Chicken breast to the same skillet, cook until the meat is browned, about 4-6 minutes.

  • Add sliced bell pepper and minced garlic, stir fry for about 1 minute.

  • Add smoked paprika, ground cumin, ground coriander, dried oregano, sugar, black pepper and salt, stir for 20 seconds.

  • Add 1 teaspoon of corn starch, and some cold water to a small drinking cup, mix well.

  • Add the starch water to the skillet, bring the content to boil, then reduce the heat to low, simmer for 5 minutes

  • Increase the heat to high, stir until the sauce in the skillet are thickened. The fajita is ready for assemble.

Assemble the Fajitas

  • Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or in the microwave.

  • Spread the Crème Fraîche or sour cream on the tortillas, place some fajita in the center of each tortilla, add your toppings with shredded cheese, avocado, tomato, lettuce, a squeeze of lime juice and some Tabasco. Wrap it up!
